Visiting Pitcairn for 14 days or less?

If you wish to visit Pitcairn for a period of 14 days or less, and will be travelling to and departing from Pitcairn on the same vessel, you may be eligible for a short-term visitor visa, which you can apply for on arrival at Pitcairn.

You must meet character, health, travel and medical insurance, and financial capacity requirements as outlined in the Immigration policy (unless waived by the Governor).

Applications for short-term visitor visas are made to an immigration officer on arrival at Pitcairn through completion of the combined immigration and biosecurity declaration form (given out on arrival).

You do not need to apply in advance of travel. 

However, if your answers to any of the questions in Section D (character), Section E (immigration history), Section F (health) are “Yes”, you are encouraged to contact Pitcairn immigration prior to travel via contact form below as you may need to apply for a waiver.

Visiting Pitcairn for more than 14 days?

If you wish to visit Pitcairn for a period of more than 14 days, you will need to obtain a long-term visitor visa before travelling.

To apply for a long-term visitor visa, you must:

  • Complete the long-term visitor visa application form

  • Undertake a medical examination and have the general medical certificate form and chest x-ray form completed

  • Obtain Police certificates setting out any criminal convictions you have from your country of citizenship and any other country you have resided in for more than 12 months

  • Email your completed form, general medical certificate, chest x-ray form, Police certificates and any other supporting documentation to Pitcairn immigration in the below contact form.

  • Pay the application fee (NZ$150)

The Governor of Pitcairn will make decisions on applications for long-term visitor visas, after consultation with the Pitcairn Island Council.

You are encouraged to apply well in advance of your intended travel to ensure that there is sufficient time to obtain all necessary documentation and have it considered.

Long-term visitor visas are issued for six months.  You can apply for an extension prior to the expiry of the visa.

Long-term visitor visa holders must maintain adequate travel and medical insurance for the duration of their visa.

Coming to Pitcairn to work temporarily?

If you wish to come to Pitcairn to work on a temporary basis, you will need to obtain a work visa before travelling.

To apply for a work visa, you must:

  • Complete the work visa application form

  • Undertake a medical examination and have the general medical certificate form and chest x-ray form completed

  • Obtain Police certificates setting out any criminal convictions you have from your country of citizenship and any other country you have resided in for more than 12 months

  • Email your completed form, general medical certificate, chest x-ray form, Police certificates and any other supporting documentation to Pitcairn immigration in the below contact form.

  • Pay the application fee (NZ$300)

Work visas are issued for six months.  You can apply for an extension prior to expiry of the visa.

Work visa holders must maintain adequate travel and medical insurance for the duration of their visa.

Interested in settling permanently on Pitcairn?

If you would like to settle permanently on Pitcairn, you must:

a.  Initially live on Pitcairn for at least three months on a long-term visitor visa or a work visa;

b. Then obtain a settlement visa (valid for two years). 

There are two pathways to obtaining a settlement visa:

i.     the family pathway - where the applicant has a close family member – spouse/partner, child, parent or sibling, lawfully residing on Pitcairn; or

ii.    the skills pathway - where the applicant has relevant skills which will contribute to the Pitcairn community;

c.    Then, after lawfully residing on Pitcairn for more than two years, apply for permanent residence.

Settlement visa holders must maintain adequate travel and medical insurance for the duration of their visa.

The application form for permanent residence is here.  There is no application fee for permanent residence.

Permanent residents are entitled to live and work on Pitcairn indefinitely.

Interested in making Pitcairn a home away from home?

There is a special visa category for people who wish to spend part of the year in Pitcairn – a seasonal resident visa.  Please note that seasonal residents are not permanent residents and are not entitled to the benefits that permanent residents or those with Right of Abode receive. 

To be eligible for a seasonal resident visa, you must:

  • genuinely intend to spend up to six months in any 12 month period on Pitcairn; and

  • meet character, health, travel and medical insurance, and financial capacity requirements as outlined in the Immigration policy (unless waived by the Governor).

To apply for a seasonal resident visa, you must:

  • Complete the seasonal resident visa application form

  • Undertake a medical examination and have the general medical certificate form and chest x-ray form completed

  • Obtain Police certificates setting out any criminal convictions you have from your country of citizenship and any other country you have resided in for more than 12 months

  • Email your completed form, general medical certificate, chest x-ray form, Police certificates and any other supporting documentation to Pitcairn immigration via contact form below

  • Pay the application fee (NZ$300)
